Jo-Renee Hunter is the managing owner of Hunter Gauldon and Wilson. Jo-Renee has provided tax advice on foreign and US tax issues related to mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, dispositions, start-ups and cross border transactions for over 25 years. During her career, Jo-Renee has worked for a major law firm (McDermott, Will and Emery), major CPA firm (Peat, Marwick & Mitchell), and fortune 50 companies (General Motors Corporation and Nissan North America).
Jo-Renee holds a BS in Accountancy from the University of Illinois (Urbana), a MS in Taxation with a concentration in International Business from DePaul University (Chicago) and a JD from the Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago Kent College of Law (Chicago). Jo-Renee is a CPA and license to practice law in Illinois, Michigan and Washington D.C.
Jo-Renee has extensive knowledge of tax laws, treaties and regulations for the US and countries located in Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Africa and North and South America. Jo-Renee has successfully defended tax positions with Tax Appeals Boards in the US and foreign countries.
Jo-Renee is often asked to speak at seminars on international and domestic tax issues for mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, dispositions, wholly owned start-ups and cross border transactions. Jo-Renee has testified before Congress’ House Ways and Means committee on the economic impact that US international tax policies have on the US multinational corporations’ global competitiveness.
Jo-Renee has been a panel member and/or moderator for: Tax Executive Institute, American Conference Institute, International Fiscal Association, American Bar Association, and Practicing Law Institute.
Jo-Renee is a Member of the Leadership Taskforce, District Export Council Southern California Region, U. S. Secretary of Commerce
Jo-Renee is an active member of the American Bar Association (ABA), Section of Taxation. Jo-Renee is a former Chair of the ABA's, Section of Taxation Foreign Activities of US Taxpayers and Women and Minorities Committees and an appointed member to serve on the ABA Section of Taxation Government Submission Committee.
Jo-Renee is a Board of Advisor for the Journal of International Taxes magazine.
